Yesterday former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiangi finally presented himself to the DCI headquarters where he was expected to record a statement with regard to the ongoing investigation over the alleged raid at his Karen Residence.

The former CS arrived at the DCI headquarters in the morning accompanied by politicians and lawyers who had gone to stand in solidarity with him. The excercise allegedely too just few minutes but Matiangi was later detained close to six hours.

This prompted the Azimio leader Raila Odinga to rush to the DCI headquarters to see what was happening but only for him to be barred from accessing the premises. The angry Raila questioned to know why he was being denied access to a public institution and what law the officers applying. Few minutes after that scuffles at the gate, Dr Matiangi was released minutes later and was allowed to go home.

Today it has however emerged that former president Uhuru Kenyatta's call to the DCI scared the officers making them to release Dr Matiangi immediately. According to the information, president Uhuru directed the DCI to release Matiangi or else he will go there himself to release him. This scared the officers that if Uhuru joins hands with Raila it will cause chaos. To avoid such an happening the DCI had no otherwise but to release Matiangi.

Dr Matiangi served under president Uhuru Kenyatta and was one of his trusted me in his administration to the extent that he made him a super CS with powers of chairing Cabinet meetings and supervising national government projects. This elevation of Matiangi to super CS, drastically reduced the powers of the then deputy president William Ruto who lated broke up with his boss Uhuru.
